The Ask
Develop an EMEA Starbucks Drive Thru that unlocks the full potential of this store format and drives accelerated growth. The design should be: 1) ownable and recognizable. 2) elevate customer and store-partner experience 3) scalable, modular and adaptable for different regions/markets. 4) support sustainability standards and environmental goals.
The Approach
Developed a store concept grounded in Starbucks’ brand promise to “create moments of connections” – Put the bar front and center, designed a transparent welcoming 3rd place environment both inside and out that elevates the in-store and drive thru customer experience. Worked with a cross-functional team, design, external consultants, operations, real-estate and construction to align design development, testing and value engineering and stages.
The Outcome
Delivered two pilot locations (first store opened in 2018 Yeading, London) Led value engineering program (reducing initial cost by 25%) Created a full drive thru program, including design guidelines and variations for roll-out in all regions, enabling the roll-out of 100+ stores.
